A day in Helensburgh

Follow me and Harris as we embark on the expedition to nowhere down some muddy tracks and sharp corners. It’s not always as easy as it looks in the movies!

We set off on our bikes to try and find some trails, but got lost and ended up trying to squeeze through small gaps in fences – we weren’t getting anywhere. After trying to look at maps for five minutes a man drove past us on the dirt track and asked us if we knew where we were going and we explained to him that we were trying to find our way to the fire trail. He gave us directions and eventually we found the trail. It was a nice small valley up a hill with a trail going up and down it. Right at the top was a decorated Christmas tree but sadly all the presents were gone.

We went up again in the afternoon the next day. It was nice weather and everything was going well until my friend pointed out that my tire looked flat. Luckily he had a portable pump on him so we got that out and started pumping up my wheel.

As soon as I tried to pull the pump off, the valve started to unscrew and came off all together with the pump which let all the air out. I had to put my finger over the hole to stop the air coming out while trying to screw the valve back in. I managed this then pumped up the tyre only for the valve to come out again. At this point we realised that the thread was worn so I had to fill a little air then remove the pump carefully, so not to take the valve off with it, then repeat until the tire was at pressure.

We then carried on to cycle up the hill and took lots of footage. By the end it was getting dark but I was able to lighten some of the footage afterwards in iMovie. The shots I got at the end were just too dark and were unusable.

Here’s me trying to pump up my wheel for the fifth Time

I wanted to create a film that is more of an expedition than the classic idiom of action videos with this trip. To do this I added all the videos where we get lost and had to push our bikes back up the hill, go down the wrong path and find a massive drop, or just end up skidding off the path after a turn taken too fast. Gradually throughout the video you can see the sun going down and at the end it gets too dark so we decide to head back home for the night.

So in conclusion, here’s the video I ended up making from all the events that occurred that weekend. Enjoy!
